Deep Roots with Christine Howell
Keeping-it-real job title
Wizard of Procurement and Negotiation
What are you passionate about?
Doing the right thing. Enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. And of course, gardening.
Why did you join The Todd Group?
This company is very creative and has excellent customer rapport and attention to detail. The people who work here really enjoy what they do—and that makes for a fulfilling work environment.
What does your own garden look like?
I live on three acres in Northern Passaic County that back up to a 60-acre watershed area. I’ve got lots of perennials going on and I grow many different vegetables. I love living amid nature with the ability to easily go see a Broadway show in New York.
What do you love about your job?
I’ve always loved being outside, and quite honestly, getting my hands dirty! Playing with plants and nurturing them to see them grow and flourish is just joy. Working in this industry is therapeutic.
Five must-haves to do your job well?
A great attitude, knowledge of plant and hardscape materials, a reliable vehicle, a computer, and good rain gear.
What makes a true landscape professional?
Landscaping is much more than mowing lawns! The best landscape team offers services like weed control, insect prevention, and diagnosis and treatment of fungi that can kill plants and trees. They understand the science of good, nutrient-rich soil and how to grow different plants well. That full-service approach is one benefit of working with The Todd Group—few landscape companies can care for your lawn, trees, and shrubs, design a patio and pool area with outdoor structures, and maintain it all beautifully.
What’s your favorite part of working with clients?
I just love making people happy. A beautiful landscape makes people feel good, and the thing I like most about this profession is sharing a finished product that people will enjoy for years to come.
